The term FBO stands for Fixed Base Operator and describes the area and terminal at an airport dedicated to private and business jets. Porter Airlines Launches Vancouver-Ottawa Flights On Embraer E-195 E2

On 26 July 2023, Canadian carrier Porter Airlines announced the inauguration of flights between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR). The service will mark the airline’s first connection between the Canadian capital and the nation’s westernmost province. Read more here.

Asia Pacific air cargo demand hit by consumer spending shift and higher prices

A shift in consumer spending from goods to services and higher prices were partly to blame for an air cargo demand decline amongst Asia Pacific airlines in June.
Preliminary June 2023 traffic figures released by the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) found air cargo demand, as measured in freight tonne kilometres (FTK), declined by 8.1% year on year. Read more here.

Port of Vancouver Operations Update – July 26

On Thursday and Friday this week, International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Canada membership will vote on the tentative agreement reached with the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA).
Regular operations will continue while voting takes place.

Zim downsizing its container ship fleet as demand disappoints

Israel-based ocean carrier Zim (NYSE: ZIM) is cutting its exposure to the freight market by offloading multiple leased vessels. News of its divestment strategy was first reported in late June and fresh details are now emerging.
There have been reports this week of at least five charter terminations and sublets by Zim, plus efforts to unload at least four more leased ships. Two of the early charter terminations were confirmed by the vessels’ owner. Read more here.

State-backed entities announced they would sell their majority shareholding in HMM last week with interested parties given until August 21 to lodge a bid. Read more here.

Bangladesh factories face delays as rail stoppage triggers box congestion

Factories in Bangladesh face supply chain delays after train services were suspended on Sunday as Bangladesh Railway staff refused to work overtime, due to a payment dispute.
